World first as living HIV patient donates kidney in US
In a world first, US doctors have transplanted a kidney from one HIV-positive patient to another. The operation took place at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland, with both patients said to be doing well.

UNAIDS Secretariat launches Gender Action Plan 2018–2023
UNAIDS has launched its new Gender Action Plan for 2018–2023. The plan builds on the progress achieved under the 2013–2018 plan, which provided a framework to advance gender equality and empower women across the UNAIDS Secretariat.

Apple released iPhone unique (RED)
Apple Inc. announced the release of unique smartphones and iPhone 8 iPhone 8 Plus in red. The new model will be timed to coincide with a charity event (RED), in which part of the proceeds from sales of phones will be sent to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS.
<span>The charity's research shows that almost half of women with HIV thought they had been diagnosed late, which could shorten their lives and mean their health is worse.</span>

Women left out of HIV services as they focus too much on gay men, charity says
Women's HIV is not being treated early enough, the Terence Higgins Trust has said, as it warns that campaigns are too focused on gay men. The couple have asked guests and wellwishers to donate to charity rather than buying a gift when they tie the knot on 19th May, and now they have released the names of the seven charities they're hoping people will support. Harry and his bride-to-be have chosen organisations representing causes close to their hearts including, sport for social change, women's empowerment, conservation, the environment, homelessness and the Armed Forces. And they showed their determination to continue Princess Diana's work in support of people with HIV by nominating the Children's HIV Association.

UNAIDS announces nearly 21 million people living with HIV now on treatment
Remarkable progress is being made on HIV treatment. Ahead of World AIDS Day, UNAIDS has launched a new report showing that access to treatment has risen significantly. In 2000, just 685 000 people living with HIV had access to antiretroviral therapy. By June 2017, around 20.9 million people had access to the life-saving medicines. Such a dramatic scale-up could not have happened without the courage and determination of people living with HIV demanding and claiming their rights, backed up by steady, strong leadership and financial commitment.

The Global Fund appoints new executive director
Today, the Board of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria appointed a new Executive Director Peter Sands, who previously worked as an executive director of Standard Chartered Bank and, after a successful career in the banking sector, implemented a number of global public health projects.
